Perhaps it looks simple: not a charming palace from a fairy-tale and without sophisticated decorations. But what is clear at once that it is a defence point.
Lidsky Castle was always been classified as a castel castle. This means that it is made of stone, with two towers positioned diagonally, and is used for a dislocation of the army.
Neither a rectangle nor a square, but a trapezium. This is the shape of the castle in Lida. The longest wall is the northern one, because when the castle was built, namely from that direction the attacks of Crusader knights were expected.
Probably one of the most tragic weddings in the world took place here: 71-year-old Polish King Jogaila married 17-year-old Duchess Sophia Golshanskaya, who was old enough to be his granddaughter. Yet this marriage allowed the famous Jagiellonian dynasty to continue.
Theatrical performances are landmark of Lidsky Castle. The courtyard is either transformed into a battle arena for re-enactors or it welcomes guests with an improvised wedding of Sophia and Jogaila.
