But this is certainly not the case with the Strochicy Skansen Museum. There is a difficult word again, isn’t there? Skansen means open-air museum. It was the idea of Scandinavians, and that format suited us down to the ground.
When you say that there are different ethnic regions in Belarus, tourists are shocked. Yeah, we are not so small! We are the 13th largest country in Europe. Our territory could easily "include" Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland. And yes, there are Belarussian regions with their own peculiarities.
Podneprovie, Poozerje, Central Belarus.... From these regions entire houses, barns, mills with their related equipment were carefully transported to Strochicy in order to show regional peculiarities and local authenticity. Small and so diverse Belarus - this is now an obvious fact for you.
We recommend to have a quest in the museum. The programme includes a meeting with the witch Baba Yaga, a visit to the house spirit Domovik, an interaction at the forge, a tasting of honey... We won't disclose all the secrets.
But the most exciting about this museum is the rituals. The Kaliada (Slavic Christmas-related rituals), Maslenitsa (Butter Week), Gukanne of Spring (Welcoming the spring) are ancient pagan festivals. Without them, you wouldn't understand the big heart and hospitality of Belarusians.
