Sapieha Palace in Ruzhany is an oxymoron in action, so to speak. Grandiose, very impressive, meticulously maintained, but so far, it’s mostly ruins (although some parts of the complex have been carefully restored). Get ready for a surprise: we recommend to see them this way! Hurry up, because the restoration is gathering pace.
Sunsets on the ruins are incomparable! As the sun strives to merge with the horizon, its rays penetrate the arches, columns and holes in the walls of the ruined palace and seem to absorb their reddish hue. The result is that the disc of the sun and the palace merge into a single bloody blaze. Frighteningly beautiful. Ominously attractive.
If you come to the ruins at this hour, the dark cellars with their tongues of mist and deadly cold, will send shivers down your spine. It's impossible to go down at the moment. But they say the basement of the palace went deep into the ground for four floors. There used to be the treasury of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Then it must have become too big to fit in there.
One letter that distinguishes Ruzhany from Pruzhany will cost you a fifty-kilometer drive. The symbol of Pruzhany is a country villa in the Art Nouveau style. No similar ones have been kept in Belarus. Only this one - "The Palatsik of Pruzhany". But in general, the villa has such an Italian charm that it is quite a "palazzo", some kind of Venice. The bizarre exterior view - complete asymmetry of the building - deserves attention. Inside you'll find a visual guide on the life of the nobility. The villa is surrounded by a well-kept park, which is definitely worth a walk.
